Harrington police seize $7,500 after traffic stop

A traffic stop early today in Harrington resulted in officers seizing more than $7,500 from a motorist.

The stop occurred about 2:40 a.m. on U.S. 13 where officers stopped a car for failing to stay within a single lane, said Sgt. Earl Brode.

When officers approached the stop car, both the driver and passenger were acting suspicious, Brode said.

A search of the car uncovered $7,572 in cash, three cell phones, 16 pair of Uggs shoes, a pair of Nike shoes and a video camera.

Both people, who were from out-of-state, were taken into custody where the driver was cited for failing to drive within a single lane.

The pair was later released and now have 60 days in which to reclaim the seized cash and merchandise, Brode said.
