But not all of the shopping fights have been about the new kicks. At the Mall of America in Minnesota, it took police over an hour to get the mall back in order after an apparent fight broke out in the food court.
And the melee was not just confined to the U.S. In London yesterday, a teenager was killed and a second person seriously wounded while shopping on Oxford Street.
Joining me now with reaction, our psychotherapist, Dr. Karen Ruskin and "Project 21" fellow, Fox News contributor, Deneen Borelli.
Karen, what is going on in these shoe riots?

You have young adults, young children who are inundated with the bad behavior and negative influences they see on a regular basis, music videos, Hollywood movies, video games, and they are mimicking this behavior and it's very detrimental to them and to our society.
STEYN: Now, Karen, you in a sense said we're surrendering to behavioral impulses here, but in the end, a pair of shoes is a pair of shoes. Do corporations such as Nike, for example, bear some blame? They have tried to distance themselves from these riots and all the rest of it, but they make shoes and invest with significance beyond footwear.

Nike Profit Tops Analysts' Estimates on Sales
Nike Inc. (NKE), the world's largest sporting-goods company, reported second-quarter profit that topped analysts' estimates as sales of running shoes surged in North America.
Net income in the quarter ended Nov. 30 rose 2.6 percent to $469 million, or $1 a share, from $457 million, or 94 cents, a year earlier, Beaverton, Oregon-based Nike said today in a statement. Analysts projected 97 cents a share, the average of 18 estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Nike's profit has surpassed analysts' projections in 21 of the past 22 quarters.
Nike has been trying to maintain profit growth amid higher raw-material and labor costs by increasing sales and raising prices. Total revenue rose 18 percent to $5.73 billion in the quarter. Nike-brand orders for December to April, excluding currency changes, advanced 13 percent, surpassing analysts' average projection for a 12.7 percent gain.
“The bottom line is it's a decent quarter,” with sales in North America and China exceeding expectations, said Chris Svezia, an analyst for Susquehanna Financial Group in New York. Nike repurchased more shares than expected and that may have helped them beat analyst projections, according to Svezia, who has a “neutral” rating on Nike shares.
Nike rose 2.9 percent to $96.30 at 6:59 p.m. in New York. The shares had gained 9.6 percent this year through the end of today's regular trading.
Sales in North America, Nike's largest market, rose 21 percent to $2.07 billion, led by sales of running shoes. Revenue from China increased 28 percent to $650 million. Revenue grew in every region except Japan.

Image rights are already a growing element of player contracts with Europe's elite clubs; upon joining Real Madrid in 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo first haggled with the club to ensure that at least 50 percent of any revenue generated from his image go to him.
But if endorsement deals continue to grow, some worry that multinational corporations will begin to dictate where players go, acting almost as an agency. The bigger issue is that permitting players to accessorize their jerseys with personal sponsors — a natural progression from the image rights clauses included in some contracts — could be the ultimate victory for player power and commercialism.

Workers help nab suspect in shoplifting
Columbus police say two alert construction workers thwarted a would-be shoplifter who tried to steal a pair of tennis shoes from a local department store.
Police said Rex K. Sheffield, 49, of Seale, Ala., stole a $98 pair of white Nike tennis shoes and wore them as he walked out of Kohl’s on Whittlesey Boulevard Friday morning.
A female “loss prevention officer” noticed the theft and chased Sheffield across the parking lot at Columbus Park Crossing South into the Columbus Park Crossing North lot.
Sheffield allegedly ran through a gate behind the Atlanta Bread Company where Griffin Hale and James Carter, working for Alexander Electric, stopped him and waited for police to arrive.
The shoes were returned to the store, and Sheffield was taken to the Muscogee County Jail, charged with theft by shoplifting, providing false information to an officer and violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act.
