Sise’s Nordsj?lland close on Copenhagen

Mikkelsen and Parkhurst gave the visitors the much needed win with the American also picking up his third yellow card of the season, which will force him to sit out their game next weekend.

At the time of kickoff, the Wild Tigers [Nordsj?lland] held a four-point lead over Horsens in the race for the league’s second Champions League qualification spot, putting the pressure of a crucial six-pointer on each of the two.

After a cagey opening, Nordsj?lland gave themselves the upper hand two minutes before the half-hour, as Michael Parkhurst played a give-and-go to perfection with Kasper Wellemberg Lorentzen, sending a cutting pass through the defense then running onto the flicked return before putting it away in emphatic fashion for the 1-0 lead.

While Horsens did their best to stay within striking distance, Nordsj?lland’s superiority finally showed through with 18 minutes left in regulation, as Tobias Pilegaard Mikkelsen ran onto a through-ball in the left side of the area and chipped his shot from a tight angle into the far side of goal.

With Copenhagen only managing a scoreless draw later in the day on their trip to Silkeborg at the Mascot Park, the Wild Tigers move to within three points of the leaders; albeit with a slightly lesser goal differential.

Sise and his Nordsj?lland will try to continue their unexpectedly strong campaign on Sunday when they welcome HB K?ge at the Farum Park.
